MEET DR SEUSS
Soal Dr Seuss. Dia adalah pengarang cerita anak-anak jenius. Sementara banyak penulis yang terperangkap dengan ide istana, putri, dan monster, Dr Seuss hadir dengan cerita-cerita sederhana tapi sangat imajinatif dan pastinya punya pesan moral yang mahal.
Bahkan pesan yang ada dalam setiap ceritanya jauh melampaui masalah salah atau benar. Dr Seuss bicara soal manusia, peradaban, dan pemikiran ideal lainnya lewat bahasa yang mudah dan ilustrasi khasnya.
Dr Seuss membuat cerita Horton Hears a Who untuk menyuarakan pemikirannya tentang pemboman Hiroshima, antiisolasi, dan internasionalisme. Dia membuat The Lorax sebagai sindiran bagi manusia yang terlalu serakah menggaruk hutan untuk keuntungan pribadi.
The Sneetches tentang kesetaraan ras. The butter battle book tentang perburuan senjata. Yertle the turtle tentang hitler dan antiotoritarian. Atau How The Grinch stole Christmas yang bercerita tentang materialisme dan konsumerisme pada saat hari besar keagamaan, seperti Natal.
Kisah-kisah yang ditulisnya mempengaruhi saya dalam banyak hal. Ini dia sejumlah pesannya yang paling saya sukai.
